The Spanish Photonics Technology Platform, Fotónica21, encompasses the main of industrial enterprises and other stakeholders in the field of photonics in Spain. Born with the support of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade to coordinate activities at the national level in the same manner to those carried out at the European Technology Platform Photonics21. As in other European technology platforms, the basic objective of Fotónica21 is the backbone of an efficient process of industrial innovation in the photonics technology and its applications in four economic sectors identified as key technologies: Information and Communications, Industrial Manufacturing Processes, Life Sciences, Lighting and Displays. In addition, three cross-cutting activities: Security and Sensors, Optical components and systems, and Basic Research and Training.
One of the main objectives of Fotonica21 is to increase the Spanish participation in the Seventh Marco Program of the European Union, within the scope of the priorities of Information Technology and Communications (ICT), Nanotechnologies, Materials and Production Processes (NMP) and Security (SEC), among the most important.
The objectives pursued by Fotonica21 are:
Contributing to define a Strategic Research Agenda for the Spanish industry of photonics, in the target sectors of Photonics21 and others who are considered likely to have an impact at European level
Influence the implementation of the SRA of Photonics21, taking into account the previously defined agenda for Fotónica21.
Move to the European forums Fotónica21 strategies to update the SRA, and that such strategies will be on the working programs of the European Commission.
And, in general, actions aimed at improving the competitiveness of the Spanish system of Science-Technology-Company by strengthening the participation in initiatives and projects under the Marco Program for R & D of the European Union. The main duties will include:
The main duties will include:
To advise the administration on the international representations, as well as represent the Spanish system of Science-Technology-Company by mechanisms that would be considered most appropriate, before the European initiatives: Technology Platforms, ERANETs, ERA-PILOTS,…
Develop a work program to revitalize the operation area and generate policy proposals in medium and long term to promote R & D and competitiveness of the sector, suggest courses of action.
Strategic Research Agenda
The definition of a Strategic Research Agenda is one of the main objectives of the platform. This instrument will allow the implementation of the vision that Fotónica21 would have.
The research priorities that will be reflected in the Strategic Research Agenda of the platform Fotonica21 must be aligned with the reality of the photonics technology in Spain, considering both aspects of industrial development as a breakthrough in scientific knowledge in the areas of interest that were previously identify within the following fields:
Technologies for Information and Communications
Process manufacturing industry
Life Sciences
Lighting and Displays
It also identifies a number of activities that allow an horizontal industrial development and generation of knowledge in the fields mentioned above. These horizontal activities are: Security and Sensors, Optical components and systems, and Basic Research and Training.
The Code of Good Practice and Internal serves
The Code of Good Practice and Internal serves as a code of operation of the Spanish Technology Platform Fotonica21.
