Photonics integration leads to a large reduction in cost and size of photonic systems and subsystems for a variety of applications, but the entry costs are fairly high. Generic Photonic Foundries, i.e. foundries that offer standardized integration processes with dedicated design tools and component libraries, will lead to a large reduction of entry costs. They will bring the application of Photonic ICs within reach for a large number of SME’s and larger companies.
is the aim of the Integration Forum to bring providers and users of Photonic ICs together and inform them about which technologies will become available in the coming years and what the application requirements are. This year we will focus on prospects for Photonic Integration in different application fields and on the emergence and progress of Generic Photonic Foundry initiatives
